Cattle Research Station to be set up at Burgur

A cattle research station would be set up at Burgur in Erode district soo as part of government efforts to protect the rare bulls and cows of Kangeyam, Burgur, Puliyakulam and Alambadi, officials said.
Preliminary works have been completed to locate the research station, Dr S Yesodai of the Tamil Nadu University for Veterinary and Animal Sciences (TANUVAS) said.
The official said to start the research station, the state government has allotted Rs six crore while the district administration has sanctioned a 50-acre site at Thattakarai forest area near Burgur.
Officials said the number of Burgur bulls and cows is diminishing every year. At present, there are about 3000 such cattle in the state.
Burgur bulls are very sturdy and useful for the hill area agricultural operations besides giving good good milk yield.
A Burgur cattle show would be conducted on April 26 at Burgur hill, they added.
