He fell short of creating history by losing in the final of the World Professional Billiards championship and the Indian cueist Alok Kumar said his opponent, Englishman David Causier, unsettled him with heavy scoring in the first two frames here today.
Former Asian champion, Kumar failed to add the World Billiards trophy to his cabinet as he lost to local favourite Causier 1-6 to settle for the silver medal in the 150-up format competition at the Northern Snooker Centre, here.
"Nothing went right for me in the final. He started scoring heavily from the outset and I did not get a clue when the first two frames finished. I did not get to know about it. He unsettled me with his heavy scoring," Kumar told PTI.
"The table for the final match was also different from the ones we played our league matches on. I could not adjust to it. Causier played well from the beginning," he added.
The scoreline suggested it all 150 (123)-06, 150 (114)-11, 150 (64)-81, 150 (85)-13, 150 (109)-92, 51-150 (53), 150 (124)-124 (93).
Two-time runner-up Causier, who lifted his first-ever World title today, kept on constructing big breaks in the final and did not have to work too hard against Kumar.

He started with two magnificent unfinished breaks of 123 and 114 points, and gained a 2-0 lead.
Kumar countered in the third game and scored 81 points but Causier always remained ahead and won the subsequent games by crafting breaks of 64, 85 and 109 points.
However, Kumar managed to clinch the sixth game and gave tough fight in the seventh also, but it was too late for him as he bowed out 1-6.
Kumar, the only player in the country who has won titles in every discipline, said it was a tough field with all the leading cueists from the world participating in the championship.
"All the top Indian, English and other players were there in action. It was a tough field. Overall, I am happy with my performance and it is my first-ever final in the World Billiards," said Kumar, whose earlier best finish was the semi-final in 2002.
