Ruckus today prevailed at the meeting of Delhi University's Academic Council which approved with majority the syllabi for 100 subjects under Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) for the ensuing academic session.
A section of council members, who are against the introduction of the programme, jumped into the well to register their dissent and the meeting had to be stalled temporarily to bring the House back into order.
"The AC today approved with huge majority of 79 members out of 111 members, all courses of study under CBCS for academic session commencing in July. Teachers of the university have cooperated in large numbers with framing of the courses of study, through respective departments and proper procedures have been followed in doing so," DU Registrar Tarun Das said in a statement.
22 council members, who dissented on the issue, alleged that the no zero hour was allowed during the meeting.
"When our dissent was not taken note of, we jumped into the well and the meeting had to be temporarily stalled," an AC member said.
Academic Council is one of the statutory bodies of DU. Getting the syllabus for the proposed courses approved in the AC and then in the Executive Council is one of the biggest legal hurdle for DU in the way of implementing CBCS.
Despite staff associations of dozens of colleges resolving against CBCS structure and syllabi, approval of around 100 courses was on the agenda of the AC meeting today.
The Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) also staged a protest outside the Vice Chancellor's office.
