CBI analyses more documents; set to question persons in PE

CBI today analysed fresh documents received from Italy as it prepared to examine former IAF Chief S P Tyagi and 10 others named in its Preliminary Enquiry(PE) to probe allegations of kickbacks in the VVIP chopper deal.
Some more documents which were brought to India by another officer from Italy yesterday were being analysed today, CBI sources said, adding the legal department of the agency was being made a part of the probe team to determine the scope of evidence in each and every document.
The sources said the agency is set to examine the people named in the PE registered to probe allegations that kickbacks were paid in the Rs 3,600 crore AgustaWestland helicopter deal.

They said the CBI is likely to seek documents of Indian units of the companies--Aeromatrix and IDS Infotech--allegedly involved in the case after seeking legal opinion in the matter.
The PE was registered yesterday to probe allegations that some "middlemen have influenced the deal in favour" of the UK-based AgustaWestland for the supply of 12 helicopters.
It is also learnt that parent company Finmeccanica paid a commission of seven million Euros (about Rs 50 crore) to the middlemen out of which huge sums were transferred to seven Indian nationals through Tunisia and Mauritius, the PE said.
CBI had yesterday registered a PE in the case naming former IAF chief SP Tyagi and 10 others including his cousins--Julie, Docsa and Sandeep Tyagi as suspects.
