CBI arrests Customs officer for accepting bribe

CBI has arrested an officer working in the office of Deputy Commissioner of Customs in Mumbai for allegedly accepting bribe from a person for allowing him to remove scrap and debris from the notified area of SEEPZ-SEZ.
Sunil Kumar, working as Preventive Officer in the office of Deputy Commissioner of Customs, SEEPZ-SEZ, Andheri (East), Mumbai was caught while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant.
"A case was registered against a Preventive Officer, working in the office of Deputy Commissioner of Customs, SEEPZ - SEZ, Andheri (East), Mumbai for alleged demand of Rs 3 lakh for allowing the complainant to remove scrap/debris from the notified area of SEEPZ--SEZ," CBI spokesperson said here today.
It said the accused threatened that if the complainant does not pay the bribe, he would impose penalty five times of the value of work order and also will not allow interior work to be carried out in the nationalised bank premises.
"CBI laid a trap and the Preventive Officer was caught red handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 25,000 as part payment of total bribe of Rs three lakh. During the search, a cash of Rs 1.5 lakh along with other incriminating documents pertaining to assets, were recovered," it said.
