The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested an Income Tax officer here while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh for the settlement of a tax claim.
The officer (name not disclosed), attached to Ward 3 (1), had allegedly demanded the bribe to settle a tax liability claim dating back to the assessment year 2010-11.
When the assessee approached the CBI, the agency laid a trap and arrested the officer red-handed, sources said.
Simultaneous searches were conducted at the officer's office and houses at Aurangabad and Nashik, and assets disproportionate his known sources of income were found, they added.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered.
