Five and a half years after Chhattisgarh-based journalist Umesh Rajput was murdered, CBI has arrested two persons in connection with the killing.
The agency has arrested two accused--Shiv Kumar Vaishnav and Vikas Bansal, both residents of Village Kansangh of Gariyaband district--in a case related to the murder of Rajput, sources said.
Rajput who worked for Nai Dunia daily was murdered on January 23, 2011 following his story on a tribal who died after an eye surgery.
Vaishnav was known to Rajput and is believed to be one of the complainants in the murder case, the sources said.
"CBI had registered the case on February 11, 2015 on the orders dated December 27, 2014 of High Court of Chhattisgarh Judicature at Bilaspur, passed in Writ Petition No. 6459/2011 filed by younger brother of the deceased," CBI spokesperson R K Gaur said here today.
He said the agency took up the investigation of the case which was earlier registered against unknown persons vide FIR No. 12/2011 under section 302 (murder) of the IPC and Section 25/27 of Arms Act at Police Station Chhura in Gariyaband district on a verbal information of a private person.
"Both the arrested accused (including the said private person), were produced today before Court of Special Judicial Magistrate for CBI Cases at Raipur (Chhattisgarh) and remanded them to four days police custody," he said.
