Trinamool Congress today accused the NDA government of using CBI as a tool to settle political scores and threatened that the party would hit the streets to protest against the 'vindictive' attitude of the BJP and the probe agency.
"CBI is being used as a political tool to settle scores and unleash political vendetta against the TMC as those who are in power cannot fight us politically. The previous UPA government had done the same thing. The present BJP government is following in the same footsteps," TMC secretary-general Partha Chatterjee told a press conference.
He said the Trinamool Congress condemns this vindictive attitude and "we along with the masses of Bengal will hit the streets and organise protest programmes."
Chatterjee said tomorrow there would be a party programme at the Netaji Indoor stadium from where a political message would be delivered to counter the 'vindictive attitude'.
In a big embarrassment to the ruling Trinamool Congress, its Rajya Sabha MP Srinjoy Bose was today arrested by the CBI for alleged involvement in the multi-crore Saradha ponzi scam and West Bengal Textiles Minister Shyamapada Mukherjee was quizzed in another related case.
Chatterjee refused to take any question regarding the arrest of Bose, but went on to day, "Yesterday's Supreme court verdict has put question mark on CBI's credentials. CBI is working to protect the real criminals behinds the Saradha scam. CBI had been used to acheive political objectives and had been told this by the honourable Supreme Court earlier too. If CBI doesn't work impartially then where is its credentials?" Chatterjee said.
Chatterjee said that the "party would not bow its head before this conspiracy".
