CBI carries out simultaneous raids to probe recruitment scam

The CBI carried out simultaneous raids at a number of places in the country today, including the residence of N S Gajbhiye, former vice-chancellor of Dr Hari Singh Gour Central University at Kanpur in connection with an alleged recruitment scam in the prestigious institute.
Raids were also carried out at the premises of recruitment committee members and also against five selected teachers in Sagar, Kanpur, Nagpur and Karnal, a CBI official said.
CBI SP, Manish Shroti told PTI that on the basis of various complaints received, three cases were registered and after getting a warrant, raids were carried out at Gajbhiye's Kanpur residence, university premises at Sagar, Karnal (Haryana) and nine other places.
CBI sleuths have recovered fixed deposit receipts worth Rs 30 lakh from Gajbhiye's Kanpur residence, Rs 30 lakh bank balance, property details of three flats at Nagpur, Lucknow and Noida, jewellery as well as Rs 25,000 cash, he said.
Six CBI teams in Sagar examined documents related to the five selected teachers and selection committee.
The CBI also seized a large number of documents related to alleged irregularities in recruitments.
However, the CBI has not made any arrests so far.
