CBI court convicts two in passport fraud; two in cheating

A special CBI court in Ahmedabad has convicted two persons in a case of forged passports and sentenced them to three years rigorous imprisonment.
The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 40,000 each on Devang Bhanubhai Patel and Ashok Kumar Chimanbhai Patel, in the case, CBI said in a statement today.
"CBI had registered a case on the allegations that a private person in collusion with other unknown persons was running a racket in large scale wherein they indulged in preparation of blank, bogus and tampered passport booklets which were subsequently handed over to persons of dubious characters or those who were not issued passport in normal course," it said.
In a separate case in Ranchi, a special CBI court has sentenced the then General Manager of Central Coalfields Limited and a representative of a Kolkata-based firm tothree years rigorous imprisonment in a cheating case.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 35,000 on Bishwanah Sahu, then General Manager (Safety), Central Coalfields Ltd., Ranchi and Rs 30,000 on Sanjeev Chatterjee, Representative of Kolkata based private firm, the agency said.
The agency had registered the case on the allegations pertaining to procurement of first aid boxes at exorbitant rate and thereby cheating the CCL authorities to the tune of Rs 14.16 lakh.
