In the first case, a special CBI court in Mumbai has convicted the then Assistant Commissioner of I-T department in a graft case and sentenced him to undergo five years rigorous imprisonment, a CBI spokesperson said today.
"Case was registered on March 25, 1998 against Rajiv Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax Under Sec seven and 13(2) read with 13 (1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 on the allegation that he had demanded an illegal gratification of Rs 25,000 from complainant for settlement of income tax assessment for fiscal 1995-96," the statement said.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000.
In the second case, the spokesperson said a CBI court in Guwahati sentenced Pranab Paul Choudhury, the then Head Cashier, United Bank of India, Arunachal Branch, to four-year rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1.25 lakh.
CBI had filed three charge sheets against Choudhury in connection with alleged misappropriation of funds worth Rs 59.84 lakh from various customer's accounts.
