CBI raids 21 places over Rs 40 cr construction scam

CBI today conducted raids at 20 places in the city, besides the Rewa district residence of former director of National Institute of Technical Teachers' Training and Research, in connection with an alleged illegal building construction scam to the tune of Rs 40 crore.
According a senior official, the former director of NITTTR, Vijay Agrawal, had allegedly got the construction, maintenance and repair works of the institute building carried out without inviting tenders and made payments in violation of rules.
"During the searches, CBI officials recovered some incriminating documents regarding construction, maintenance and repair works carried out during Agrawal's tenure as director between 2009 and 2014 at NITTTR here," the officer said.
The places of some five to six NITTTR staffers close to Agrawal were also raided, the officer said adding that the places of contractors, who had been awarded work unlawfully have also been searched.
"The action was taken based on a complaint forwarded to us by Chief Vigilance Officer," the officer said.
He said that searches at some places are still on.
