The regional CFSL, situated at the CBI's Navi Mumbai office building, was inaugurated today by CBI's special director V K Gupta.
"The laboratory has started functioning from today with facilities like polygraph test machines, Government Examiner Questioned Documents which will help to know the veracity of documents, examination of finger prints and a photo section for photographs of crime scenes," CBI said in a statement.
Various branches of CBI like the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Economic Offences Wing, Bank Securities and Fraud Cell, Special Task Force and Special Crime Branch of Mumbai and other branches in Pune, Nagpur, Goa and Gandhinagar will get their forensic tests done in this regional CFSL.
"Earlier, the western region unit of CBI had to rely on the CFSL in Hyderabad and Delhi to get tests done. It used to cause delay in getting the results. With the opening of regional CFSL here in Mumbai, we will get results at the earliest," a senior CBI official said.
