Sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Ganapati Raju Madhav Varma, an employee of the Visakhapatnam Port Trust for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000, it was officially announced here today.
According to a CBI release issued here, the CBI registered a case against the accused yesterday.
The complainants are in the business of sprinkling water at the Visakhapatnam Port Trust area using water tanker laden trucks, the release stated.
The two complainants alleged that Ganapati Raju Madhav Varma allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 from each of them every month to be allowed to sprinkle water, the release stated.
Allegedly, the accused threatened to stop their business of sprinkling water, if they failed to pay the bribe, the release stated.
Since the complainants did not bribe Varma, he stopped their water tankers from sprinkling water yesterday and again demanded to be bribed, the release stated.
Based on their complaints, the CBI caught Varma red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 4,000 from both the complainants, the release stated.
Varma was arrested yesterday and produced before the Principal Special Judge Court for CBI cases, Visakhapatnam, who remanded him to judicial custody till October 5, the release stated.
