Official sources said the CBI has questioned the Lieutenant Colonel in the past, but wanted to seek clarifications on some issues related to the case and has written several times since June but to no avail.

The agency has shot off a number of letters to senior army officers requesting them to spare him for questioning in the case but without any result, they said.

They said the army has told the CBI that since the officer is facing court martial proceedings in another case, they cannot spare him for questioning immediately.

The sources said though army authorities have not refused to spare him for questioning, the communications in this regard have not met with a positive result during the last four months.

The officer, facing court martial proceedings after a jawan under him alleged sodomy charges against him, is a suspect in the mysterious disappearance of vegetable and meat supplier from the cantonment since 2004.

When the brother of the contractor reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court alleging connivance of police with local heavyweights, the case was handed over to the CBI in 2005.

The officer, who was a Major at the time of the incident, had alleged that the CBI was trying to malign his reputation and he had no links with the disappearance of the contractor.

He had claimed that since he was an intelligence officer, he was in touch with the contractor, whom he claimed was his source of information.
