"The delegation of representatives from the CBOs in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Maharashtra met the Minister and spoke of problems faced by these sections in integrating themselves with the social mainstream due to discrimination and stigma associated with their work," an official statement said.

The delegation informed Tirath that many of their problems arose out of the nature of their profession and lack of permanent address due to which they could not access many government schemes. The delegates also informed her of the problems they face in government offices.

The delegation sought greater representation for these sections in government schemes for skill development, education and empowerment.

"The Minister noted their concerns and sought suggestions from them on the measures that the government can take up for mainstreaming them with the society," the statement from the ministry said.
