CCI begins hunt for new Director General

Fair trade regulator Competition Commission has started the search for new Director General to head its investigation wing.
The post would be filled on a deputation basis, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs said in a circular.
The secretaries of all the ministries in the central government, chief secretaries to state governments and union territories, chairman of CBDT and CBEC, CBI Director, SFIO Director have been informed in this regard.
The candidate applying for the post should be "a person of integrity and outstanding ability with experience in investigation and knowledge of accountancy, management, business, public administration, international trade, law or economies etc," the circular said.
The Director General's office is the probe arm of the CCI. The regulator, which keeps a tab on unfair trade practices across sectors, comes under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
Corporate Affairs Minister Arun Jaitley, earlier this month, informed Parliament that almost one-third of the total sanctioned posts are lying vacant at CCI including for Joint Directors, Deputy Directors and Deputy Director General.

As against total 197 sanctioned posts, 132 posts have been filled up, he had said.
In recent times, there have been a number of incidents where entities across sectors found indulged in anti-competitive practices at the market place.
Among the major cases handled by the DG in recent times include those of DLF, NSE, Ola Cabs and others.
