CCPA to take final call on advancing budget to Feb 1: Meghwal
Press Trust of India Jammu Union Minister of State for Finance Arjun Ram Meghwal today said the Budget presentation is being advanced to February 1 and a final call will be taken by the Cabinet Committee of Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) soon. "Budget is being advanced. February first has been decided for budget. But CCPA will take final decision in this regard," he told reporters here today.
"Since Independence, we used to table budget on February 28. It was legacy of Britishers. So we plan to change it," he said.
The Union Minister further said that the Modi government plans to change financial year starting from January instead of April at present.
"In several countries outside India, there is January to December financial year. In Eastern and Western world, it is from January to December and in India it is from April-March. It was a long pending demand", he said. The previous government failed to take a decision and government led Narendra Modi has guts to take the decision, he said, adding that the government took two big decision -- surgical strike and demonetisation.
