A division bench of Justices V M Kanade and B P Colabawala was informed by the government that CCTVs have already been installed in Matunga children's home.
The court directed the government to also provide security inside and outside such homes for better safety of its women and children inmates and to also expeditiously implement the recommendations made by NGO Prayas in its report after visit to the remand and shelter homes.
The report had claimed that juveniles at the David Sassoon Children's Home in Matunga were ragged physically and mentally and were also sexually abused. It has said that drugs were easily available to the inmates.
On May 28, a 17-year-old boy died at the Matunga home following brutal assault by other inmates.
The bench, while adjourning the matter by a week, suggested that the government send its officers to the homes and see the condition.
