The Centre today asked Maharashtra government to expedite land acquisition process of Panvel-Indapur patch of National Highway 17 to speed up work on the long-pending project before the Ganesh festival.
In a meeting between Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Surface Transport and Shipping and Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadanvis, the former directed the officials to complete the work by March 16.
Gadkari also raised the issue of law acquisition for the project from Panvel to Indapur and from Indapur to Zharap. To this, the chief minister assured him of expediting the process at the earliest.
The two patches---Panvel to Indapur and from Indapur to Zharap---are the part of NH 17, which goes all the way to Kochi in Kerela after passing through Goa and Karnataka. Over the past few years, the government has been undertaking the work of widening the road owing to the fatal accidents and large volume of traffic.
On account of Ganesh festival, which sees many from Mumbai flocking to districts of Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, Fadanvis also asked Gadkari to finish the work of widening the patch between Indapur and Panvel before the commencement of the yearly carnival.
