"A section of Congress leaders in the state prefer fresh elections while another want to form a new government. We are assessing the situation," Shinde told reporters here.
He was replying to a media query whether there would be fresh elections or a new government formation.
Shinde said he had come to Jharkhand to assess developmental initiatives and steps to control naxalism in the state.
Last month there was also some move by the Home ministry on dissolution of the 82-member House, but then it fell silent on the issue.
The Congress high command had yesterday nominated Sukhdeo Bhagat as the new PCC chief, replacing Rajya Sabha member Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu, who had a long stint in the post.
