Centre assures steps to give Bengal financial relief

"Eighteen of our MPs met the Finance Minister and had a discussion about the difficult financial condition about the state. We pleaded for a moratorium on interest and debt repayment for three years and for debt restructuring," TMC leader Saugata Roy told reporters after the meeting.

He said the finance Minister was aware of the problems of the state and assured during the meeting that he will discuss their demand with the Prime Minister and "take a positive and constructive solution" to the problem of the state.

The party MPs who are meeting Prime Minister tomorrow to press for the moratorium also raised the issue of a special package for the state.

According to a TMC leader, Finance Minister assured them that centre was contemplating various steps to meet the state's requirements. "Tomorrow we are meeting PM and discussion would take place in the presence of PM and hope that a decision will be taken."

Among others former Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi was part of the TMC delegation who met Mukherjee.
