The BJP in Goa on Monday welcomed the Centre's decision on Article 370, saying it was a long pending demand of "true patriotic Indians".
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday moved a resolution in both the Houses of Parliament that Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, will not be applicable to the northern state.
Congratulating Shah for the bold decision, Goa BJP general secretary and spokesman Damu Naik said it will go a long way in reiterating the stand that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India.
"This was a long pending demand by true patriotic Indians. The entire country is celebrating the decision of the central government and the BJP," he told reporters here.
Naik said former prime minister late Jawaharlal Nehru's "wrong policies" led to such a "failing situation" in Kashmir, and the previous Congress-led governments at the Centre never bothered to take decisions to correct the mistakes.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proved himself to be a patriotic leader by conceding to this demand for which several people have been martyred," the BJP leader said.
"Now no one can attempt to give a separate identity to that part of India. Every Indian is celebrating this proud moment," he added.
