Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said the Union government has drastically reduced funds for central schemes and sought restoration of the funding pattern for such projects.
Addressing a press conference, Gogoi said the funding pattern for central schemes was yet to be restored to earlier position and the special category status of eight northeastern states remained curtailed.
The last Union Budget changed the funding pattern for central schemes completely -- from earlier 90:10 when 90 per cent of the amount was given by the Centre to 50:50, he said.
Although in some cases the funding patter was restored, funds have been curtailed for many schemes, Gogoi said.
The chief minister said that as per current status, four schemes which were 100 per cent centrally funded earlier were now funded through 90:10 ratio, and eight schemes where the funding pattern was earlier 90:10 were now funded through 80:20 ratio.
He said restoration of the funding pattern was important for growth and development of a poor state like Assam.
Gogoi denied allegation levelled by BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma that central allocation remained the same for the state.
