Centre has proposed residential schools for SC girls: Union

Union Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot today said that the Centre has proposed to introduce a scheme to open residential schools for scheduled caste (SC) girls in educationally backward districts.
The schools will have classes from VI to XII and 70 per cent of the seats will be reserved for SC girls and the remaining for those from BPL families in other categories, an official release quoting him said here.
These will be opened in educationally backward districts, the Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister said here, according to the release.
Similarly, the Rashtriya Vayoshree Yojana for senior citizens is also being implemented. Benefits of these schemes would be given on first-come-first-serve basis, a Haryana government release said quoting him.
The minister urged officers to send their suggestions and plans on these schemes at the earliest.
Gehlot was speaking at a regional conference of social welfare ministers from Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, and officials from Chandigarh.

He said states should adopt the Haryana government's initiative of providing online admission and self-generating scholarship forms to SC students.
With this, the scholarship money will be delivered to the eligible candidate on time and it will help avert duplication, Gehlot said.
He urged ministers and officials to prepare a report on the financial assistance being given under different schemes and by the national financial corporations within a month.
The minister reviewed schemes being run in the states and Union Territory Chandigarh.
The Centre is committed to ensure the welfare of scheduled caste and tribes, OBCs and BPL families through proper implementation of all centrally-sponsored social security and welfare schemes, he said.
Gehlot expressed satisfaction on the performance of the states in implementing social justice and empowerment schemes for the deprived sections.
The minister also gave away cheques to entrepreneurs from the SCs, launched a website of Venture Capital Fund for SCs and a brochure on the subject.
Union ministers Vijay Sampla and Ramdas Athawale also spoke on the occasion.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very keen to assist all the states in welfare activities for the betterment of people belonging to SCs and backward classes, Athawale said.
