The Centre has sanctioned scholarships to minority students during 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19, Assam Minister for Welfare of Minorities and Development Department, Ranjit Dutta told the state Assembly Friday.
Scholarship was disbursed to 1,37,463 of the targeted 1,44,310 pre-matric students during 2016-17, 2,21,809 of the targeted 1,44,310 the next year, while the target for 2018-19 is 1,53,263, Dutta said in reply to a question of Sherman Ali of the Congress.
The post-matric scholarship exceeded the targeted 24,077 to be disbursed to 29,316 students during 2016-17 and 33,083 against targeted 24,077 the next year with the target for 2018-19 being 25,544, the minister said.
In the merit-cum-means category 3,999 against target of 2,889 got scholarship during 2016-17 and 5,477 against 2,889 during 2017-18 with the target fixed at 3,065 the next year, he said, adding, for 2018-19 for the three categories of scholarship online application is going on.
To another question the minister said during 2018-19 no fund has been allotted under Multi-Sectoral Development Pragramme (MsDP) of the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs though an amount of Rs 119.11 crore has been allotted by the Centre under the Pradhan Mantri Jana Vikash Karyakram (PMJVK) erstwhile MsDP.
Project proposals worth Rs 17,70,785 crore has been submitted to MoMA for approval and sanction, the minister added.
