Centre in the process of including Thirukkural in curriculum

The Centre is in the process of including Tirukural in curriculum in colleges, BJP MP Tarun Vijay said today.
To promote Tirukural, the Centre was taking steps to install a statue of Tiruvalluvar in Haridwar and is in the process of including Tirukural in curriculum in colleges, he told reporters here.
"Me, along with college students would soon take out a rally in villages of Tamil Nadu to present Thirukural," Tarun Vijay, here to pay homage to freedom fighter V O Chidambaram Pillai on his 144th birth anniversary, said.
Tirukkural is a classic Tamil sangam literature consisting of 1330 couplets or Kurals authored by Thiruvalluvar. It is one of the most important works in the Tamil language.
He said his party was taking efforts to spread Tamil literature.
"The Narendra Modi-led government is also taking efforts to include in syllabus the sacrifices and achievements of Raja Rajacholan and other great personalities from the state," Tarun Vijay said.
Chidambaram Pillai, popularly known as VOC was first to give indigenous ship service to Sri Lanka from Tuticorin and his birth day falls today.
