Ruling Akali Dal today accused the UPA government of meting out "step-motherly" treatment to the state and sought an apology from the Congress leaders over the issue.

"In its tenure, the UPA government has ignored Punjab on several fronts, but the state Congress leaders never uttered a single word over the issue," Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia said during panchayat poll rallies at Ghuman and Waryam Nangal areas here.

Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa and other senior party leaders have remained silent over the issue in their effort to mislead people, he said.

"While other states were being provided special packages, the Union government has ignored Punjab in allocation of funds and schemes due to which its development had been badly hit," Majithia said.
