SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal today alleged the Central government was meting out step-motherly treatment to Punjab and deliberately stalling development projects for vested political interests.
"Several projects of huge public importance are hanging fire despite completion of the work just because the Union government has not granted permission to operationalise these," the Bathinda MP told reporters in Bhisiana village here.
Citing an example, she said all necessary works at the Bathinda Airport had been finished but the Civil Aviation Ministry was not giving permission to start flights from there.
Harsimrat, wife of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, said she and Sukhbir had personally taken up the matter with the Union government but nothing had been done in this regard.
She alleged the UPA government was causing undue delay in setting up new projects in Punjab and laying down stringent conditions to deprive central grants to the state.
"This has vindicated our stand that the Congress has always adopted an anti-Punjab stance. There is an unending list of such instances which show handing out of step-motherly treatment to the state by the Congress party," she said.
