This was stated by Revenue secretary Dr Hashmukh Adhia while addressing a meeting of the representatives of Trade and Industry on Goods and Services Tax (GST) here.
"I would like to compliment the Odisha government for taking a bold step by removing check gates in the state borders from April 1. It requires a reformist mind to do it," Adhia said.
Stating that he was sure every one would take a cue from Odisha, Adhia said that all the states should abolish this check gate system for free movement of goods.
Odisha government had established as many as 22 check gates under Odisha Sales Tax Act, 1947. Besides, check gates were operating under Odisha Value Added Tax Act, 2004, to check tax evasion.
Adhia also said that he was satisfied with the progress made by Odisha government to implement GST.
Problems faced by dealers migrating to GST would be resolved, he said.
