The Centre's pilot programmes like MUDRA and Jan Dhan Yozana are aimed at expanding the economy and improving the quality of life of the poor, BJP's Rajya Sabha member M J Akbar said today.
Jan Dhan, Aadhaar, MUDRA and other programmes would help improve the quality of life of the poor, Akbar said.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pilot programmes are aimed at elimination of poverty. Twenty-one crore people enrolled under Jan Dhan Yozana along with insurance," he said.
For the Director Benefit Transfer system, Rs 40,000 crore were saved as funds were not going to ghost accounts and also by elimination of other means of corruption, he said.
He said along with the central government's larger economic growth aim, there was an economic revolution underway just below it through these pilot programmes.
Akbar said it took 70 years to reduce BPL figure from 65 per cent to 32 per cent approximately.
"But the country will not wait that long to bring it down to zero," he said, adding that Modi's aim was to bring it down in seven to ten years.
