Centre's Rs 925 cr package for revving up Arunachal's T&D

The Centre today announced a special package of Rs 925 crore for strengthening the power transmission and distribution (T&D) system in Arunachal Pradesh, an official release said.
Chairing a review meeting of the power sector with senior officers of the state government here, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, R K Singh said that the fund would be used for reconductoring of old 11 KV lines and conversion of selected long LT distribution lines with 11 KV High Voltage Distribution System (HVDS), the release said.
The minister appealed the department to focus on cutting down losses and advised the fund sanctioned to be used primarily for the said purpose.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu, state Power Minister Tamiyo Taga and Tourism Minister cum Arunachal Pradesh Energy Development Agency (APEDA) Chairman Jarkar Gamlin also attended the meeting.
Singh said Arunachal remains a big stumbling block in achieving the Prime Ministers goal for electrifying every village by May 2018.
Of the 900 unelectrified villages across the country, about 600 are in Arunachal, he added.
The Union minister directed the officials to expedite the work to electrify every village in the state by May 1, this year.
The minister said it is necessary for the country to reach to the level of no load shedding, which is a sign of a developed nation.
