AICC general secretary Avinash Pande today alleged that the urban population was facing hardship because of the BJP government and the Centre's schemes were not being executed properly in Rajasthan.
Pande, who is also in-charge of the Congress' affairs in the state, was addressing the party's public representatives of urban local bodies.
He claimed there was resentment among the public against the government's functioning and the Centre's schemes were not being executed properly in the state.
Pande said the people faced hardship due to demonetisation and the GST, and it was reflected in the results of bypolls to two Lok Sabha seats and one Assembly seat in the state , which were won by the Congress.
PCC president Sachin Pilot claimed the previous Congress government had started the procedure of direct election of mayor and chairperson of the local bodies to strengthen democracy, but the BJP government discontinued it.
He said if the Congress came to power it would again put in place again the direct election system for the heads of urban local bodies.
