A BJP MP from Delhi today demanded in the Lok Sabha that the Centre intervene in the ongoing row over the alleged fabricated degree of Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar and arrest him and put him behind bars.
Raising the issue in the Zero Hour, Ramesh Bidhuri said it was high time the Union government stepped in and arrest the Aam Aadmi Party leader after the university from where he claimed to have received his degree told Delhi High Court that it was "fake".
"The university has given an affidavit in the court that the degree is fake. He (Tomar) remains the Delhi Law Minister. The central government should intervene now. It should dismiss him, arrest him and put him in jail," he said.
The MP from South Delhi claimed that it was the Union government which was in "charge" of Delhi as he sought its intervention.
Responding to a petition which alleged that Tomar had enrolled himself as an advocate on the basis of a "false and bogus" degree, the Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University in Bihar had submitted an affidavit in the high court stating that his provisional certificate was "fabricated".
Tomar has rejected all the charges and alleged that it was a political ploy by BJP to malign the image of AAP.
AAP has also extended support to the minister saying he will file his response in the court on August 20.
