During discussions with officials of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Thrissur circle, at Kottayam today, the Minister of State for Culture assured that the construction of toilet blocks in the seven monuments/sites in the state would be taken up as part of up-gradation of tourist amenities to encourage historical tourism network.
The Minister said that the Centre would consider the demand of the ASI for re-notification of temple monuments and wall paintings to ensure its full protection and maintenance. The ASI has demanded a re-notification of the memorials, including the Mattancherry palace to avoid a dispute with Kerala Devaswom Board.
The Archaeological Survey of India had been demanding this since 2008.
The Minister said that the proposal for introduction of entry fee at historic monuments of Thrissur Circle including St Angelo Fort Kannur, Palakkad Fort and Vattakottai Fort in Tamil Nadu was under consideration.
He also informed that the issue of protection of various institutions under the State Government which is functioning at Palakkad Fort premises would be taken up with the state Government.
