'A Road Map to sustainability' has been chosen as the theme of the conference, considering the current situation prevailing in the textile industry, a SIMA press release said here today.
Mild economic recession, Chinese policy on cotton and cotton yarn imports from India, together with the slump in EU, advantage of GSP plus agreement for Pakistan, acute shortage of skilled manpower, high attrition rate and absenteeism, competition from other sectors in attracting and retaining talents have become the major challenges for the highly capital, power and labour intensive textile industry to sustain its competitiveness and viability, it said.
There would be three sessions at the conference -- Understanding Market Dynamics, sustainability through Best Practices, and sustainability through value addition, the release said.
The AGM is expected to elect new office bearers, it said.
