'CEO' for Mumbai becoming flashpoint between Sena, BJP?

Shiv Sena today took a strong objection to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's proposal to appoint a chief executive officer for Mumbai, alleging that the move was meant to further the BJP's agenda of separating the megapolis from Maharashtra.
BJP, in turn, termed the stand of its estranged ally as inimical to the city's development.
"When he (Fadnavis) talks about creating a CEO's post for Mumbai, it seems that they (BJP) want to separate Mumbai from the rest of the state. They have similar view on Vidarbha. We will oppose this," Sena MP Rahul Shewale told PTI.
Fadnavis had said yesterday that an officer of the rank of additional chief secretary will be appointed as a CEO to coordinate the functioning of 16 agencies which operate in Mumbai.

"The Chief Minister appoints the municipal commissioners. If he had faith in his appointee, he would not have talked about creating CEO's post. If he goes ahead with his plan, his administration-handling capabilities will be questioned," Shewale, MP from South Central Mumbai, said.
Countering the allegation, BJP said the proposal was not an attempt to separate Mumbai. "Sena's stand is inimical to the development of Mumbai," city BJP chief Ashish Shelar said.
Besides the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the city has Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority which is a special planning authority for certain parts. Then there are Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority, the Slum Rehabilitation Authority, Railways and Mumbai Port Trust, among other agencies.
