CG intercepts carrier which hit fishing boat off Kochi

Coast Guard today intercepted Bulk carrier MV Miletus, whose anchor hit a fishing boat carrying nine fishermen on board off Kochi coast, police said.
None of the fishermen were injured in the incident which occurred about 25 miles of Kochi coast yesterday, coastal police sources said. The boat suffered some damage.
The ship, with the flag of Marshal Islands, was carrying cargo for Bhavnagar, when its anchor rubbed the boat, Coast Guard F B Kairali said.
The Bulk carrier informed the coast guard, which intercepted the vessel, that the boat had sustained some damage but there was no casualty.
The ship is now on its onward journey to Bhavnagar, Coast Guard said.
On receipt of initial information, Coast Guard activated its satellite tracking system MRCC Mumbai and ROS Kochi.

Coast Guard Ships Savitribai Phule and C-144 were directed to carry out investigation, a coast guard press release said.
Captain of the bulk carrier, Sajan K Leon, who is an Indian, admitted to the Coast Guard that mishap occurred when the ship's anchor 'rubbed off' the fishing boat. The incident had been recorded in their log book also.
The Captain had also informed about the accident to the owners.
Coast Guard has further forwarded owner details to Coastal police at Neendakara for further action, the release added.
