"Political parties should remember that the chair they hold today will not be with them forever. That will be decided by the people in a democratic country. That is the greatness of our country," Sankaranarayanan said at a programme here to felicitate the former Chief Election Commissioners of India.
"In our democracy we have no restrictions. You want to say anything to a person, you can say if you have a long tongue. An atom of truth may not be there. This poor man will suffer. His family will also suffer (as a consequence)," he said, in an apparent reference to the rhetoric employed during the poll campaign.
"I was in the politics from my school days. How can I take politics out of my blood?" he said.
The NOTA (none of the above) option introduced in the Lok Sabha elections this time was meaningless, he opined.
"I don't know why NOTA button is included....We have to think about it. I think there is no meaning in that," he said.
