and Tripuri tribals from Bangladesh's Chittagong hill tracts who sought to cross over to India fearing attacks on them by Bengali settlers have returned home, BSF officials said here today.
The tribals who were waiting since Saturday on the Bangladesh side of the barbed wire fencing on the border along Shuknachhari in South Tripura district left for home after a flag meeting between BSF and Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB), they said.
BGB personnel, who arrived at the spot yesterday after being informed about the development by BSF, were able to convince the tribals that security would be provided to them, the paramilitary officials said.
Chakma and Tripuri villagers of Tabalchari in Chittagong hill tracts' Khagrachari district had fled their homes fearing attacks on Saturday as Bengali settlers took out a protest march and chanted anti-Chakma slogans following an incident of robbery, they said.
