Chana prices rose by 1.89% to Rs 4,943 per quintal in futures trade today as traders indulged in enlarging holdings amid pick up in demand in the spot market.

Furthermore, restricted supplies at the physical markets too supported the upside in chana futures prices.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for October delivery rose by Rs 92, or 1.89%, to Rs 4,943 per quintal, with an open interest of 1,55,890 lots.

Similarly, chana for delivery in September increased by Rs 80, or 1.67%, to Rs 4,869 per quintal, with an open interest of 27,900 lots.

Traders said speculators increasing their holdings on pick up in spot demand, mainly pushed up chana prices.

They said fall in supplies from the producing regions of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh further supported the uptrend.
