Chanderi weavers in MP get solar lights

The weavers of the famous Chanderi town in Madhya Pradesh's Ashok Nagar district will no longer have to strain their eyes specially during night hours as the state's Energy Development Corporation has provided solar lights to 3,700 members of the weaving community.
Solar home lights have been distributed to 3,700 weavers under a special subsidy scheme by Energy Development Corporation at Chanderi in Ashok Nagar district, a Public Relations Department official said today.
The lights have been provided to weavers by the corporation in collaboration with Power Corporation, New Delhi, under corporate social responsibility, he said.
The Union New and Renewable Energy Ministry had chalked out a Rs 4.66 crore project for it.
With the installation of solar lights, weavers are now working in nights also. Each solar home light given to weavers costs Rs 12,600, the official added.
