Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today sought the blessings of goddess Kanaka Durga, the presiding deity of Vijayawada, to complete construction of the state's new capital city Amaravati as per the schedule.
"I prayed to the goddess to bestow her blessings for the completion of Amaravati and also the Polavaram multi-purpose (irrigation) project as per schedule.
"I also prayed that the state remain drought-free," the Chief Minister said.
On the auspicious 'moola nakshatram' day, wherein the Goddess is decorated as Saraswati, the Goddess of knowledge, the Chief Minister presented 'pattu vastrams' (silk clothes) on behalf of the state government.
Naidu's wife Bhuvaneswari accompanied him to the temple where they were accorded a traditional welcome by Endowments Minister P Manikyala Rao, temple Executive Officer A Surya Kumari and others.
"I prayed to the goddess that she shower her blessings on the state to ensure law and order, bountiful rains and good crops. As ours is a new state, I also prayed that she bless us that our capital is constructed," the Chief Minister said, coming out of the temple.
