In an apparent bid to pacify senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy, said to be upset with the choice of DCC Presidents in Kerala, AICC Secretary Deepak Babaria today said the former state Chief Minister was a "very tall leader" whose views are considered at national level. "Oommen Chandy is a very tall leader, very respectable leader in the party. His views are considered at the national level also. It is given weightage at the national level," he told reporters here.
He was responding to questions related to issues that have cropped up between Chandy and state Congress President V M Sudheeran following the recent nomination of DCC Presidents in Kerala.
Chandy has kept everyone guessing on whether he would attend the Congress Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting scheduled on January 14.
When pointed out that alliance partners of the party in the state including Muslim League and Kerala Congress (Jacob) have expressed unhappiness over the developments in the Congress, Babaria downplayed it saying such issues were part of the political parties.
"Is there no issues in the IUML? Is there no issues in the Kerala Congress?," asked Babaria, who was here today for leading party's protest agitation against demonetisation of high value currency notes.
Earlier this week, in Thiruvananthapuram, AICC observer K V Thangkabalu had also backed Chandy describing him as a senior leader whose presence in state politics cannot be ignored. He had said all decisions regarding the state Congress were being taken after discussions between Chandy, Sudheeran and Leader of Opposition in the state assembly Ramesh Chennithala.
