"Times have changed and names of those involved in the attack will come out," he said when reporters at the weekly cabinet briefing pointed out that only those who commit crimes are usually brought to book and not the real conspirators.

"The real face of persons behind the attack has to come out. Only then will such murders with the help of hitmen come to an end," he said.

Chandrasekharan was expelled from CPI(M) some years back for questioning party policies and he floated Revolutionary Marxist Party as a forum of Marxist rebels. The outfit became a force to reckon with in the CPI-M bastion Onjiyam and seized power at the panchayat.

On the CPI-M secretariat's charge that ruling Congress- led UDF was spreading canards to tarnish its image, Chandy said people of the state are watching all that happen.

"CPI-M in the state has been isolated from the people after this incident," he added.

The CPI-M state secretariat had in a statement yesterday said the party had no involvement in the murder as it never believed in physically eliminating political rivals.
