Change functioning of employment dept: Capt Abhimanyu

Haryana Labour and Employment Minister Capt Abhimanyu today said that as the main objective of the government is to generate employment and ensure livelihood for people, it is necessary to change the functioning of the Employment Department.
It should go beyond listing the unemployed youth and providing them unemployment allowance, he added while addressing the 46th session of Indian Labour Conference held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi here.
The department should give meaningful feedback for increasing employment opportunities, Abhimanyu said, adding, should it not change the way it works, it would lose its purpose and existence in the present system.

He said the targets set under 'Make in India' and 'Skill India' programmes by the prime minister would serve as a guide to work for welfare of the unorganized work force.
Instead of discussing shortcomings, they should be improved upon and concerted efforts should be made to ensure progress. Transparency should be brought in the functioning of every system to protect the rights of the labour, and ensure effective implementation of the labour laws, he added.
