Skarsgard, 64, said there is less and less room for psychological drama like "River" at the multiplexes, reported Digital Spy.
"There has been a structural change - very dramatically - in the last decade. The films that are made now, they either have a budget of USD 100 million dollars or USD 3 million dollars," he said.
"Everything in-between, that was character-driven, with the best actors / writers / directors, is gone, and all those talents are now going to television instead.
In "River", Swedish star plays John River, a disturbed police detective haunted by the death of his partner.
