He said it is not physical inventions which build a strong nation but teachers who are responsible for instilling values of patriotism, discipline, humanity in students so that they grow up to be sensitive.
Calling for collective efforts to make the university 'A-grade', the Governor, who was chief guest at the 47th Foundation Day function of Himachal Pradesh University here, said it was possible provided that the intention was clear and focused.
He said around 150 bighas of land had been identified near Ghanahatti for setting up a second campus of the varsity and directed the authorities to get the land transferred as soon as possible. He also inaugurated a solar plant on the university premises.
He said the issue for constructing residences for women employees would be considered.

He also thanked the Chief Minister for additional grant of Rs 11 crore to the university for 2016-17.
A memorandum of understanding was also signed between Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and HPU on the occasion which will pave way for conservation of arts and crafts.
INTACH would also develop training modules for conservation of artefacts. There will be programmes focused on conservation of paintings, paper, manuscripts, display, storage etc which will promote the idea of conservation and preservation. The focus will also be on developing research programmes on conservation science with collaboration of the university, said Malvika Pathania, ChairpersonofINTACH.
