Young Rohit Sharma top-scored for Haryana with a patient 45 off 92 balls, while Harshal Patel made 34.
In reply, Chattisgarh made a steady start to reach 41 for no loss before opener Risabh Tiwari nicked one to Nitin Saini behind the stumps off Patel's bowling in the 16th over.
