The decision to support Sangma's candidature and vote for him was taken at Indian National Lok Dal's state executive meeting held at Panchkula, near here, under the chairmanship of party supremo Chautala.
The INLD has 32 MLAs and one MP in the state.
Addressing the meeting, Chautala said that on one hand there was UPA candidate (Pranab Mukherjee) and on the other Sangma "who hails from a poor, tribal and farmer family".
Praising Sangma, Chautala said that he had an impeccable political career and also served as Lok Sabha Speaker.
Chautala said that his father and former Deputy Prime Minister late Devi Lal was always pro-poor, pro-farmers and for the weaker sections of society.
In today's executive meeting when he sought suggestion as to whom they should support in the Presidential election, all those present favoured Sangma's name, the INLD leader said.
Chautala also said that his party's fight had always been against the Congress.
